FOUNDER & EMPLOYMENT SOLICITOR
First and foremost my passion is improving the world of work for all. We all spend so much of our time at work, it is a foundation within our lives and so it should not be a place of conflict or stress.
In November 2013 I founded Real Employment Law Advice with the mission to improve the world of work for all…. one business at a time.
I qualified as a Solicitor in June 2006 and since then I have specialised in providing advice to Employers and Employees on all aspects of Employment Law and HR, including mediation and dispute resolution within the workplace.
I have experience of helping individual employees and businesses to deal with the stress that comes with problems at work and Employment Tribunal procedures.
When you think of a Solicitor most people think of a very traditional and often stuffy image, with a serious grey suit, long words and only providing advice and answers with a hefty bill.
I believe that as the world is changing, legal practice should be moving away from the traditional ways of working and service should be centered around what the customer wants.
This is why we utilise technology in providing services to customers throughout the UK, and why we provide lots of great free content, advice and information. Above all my focus is ensuring we are approachable and accessible in your time of need.
It is my goal to provide clear and unstuffy legal advice when it is required and to be on hand to prevent problems from arising.
My particular speciality is putting clients at ease throughout what is a very stressful time. I understand that there are factors outside of the legal position that affect decision making and therefore am able to appreciate what is important to you outside of the black and white lawyer perspective!
I have enjoyed listening to Podcasts for several years’ since reading the Four Hour Work Week by Tim Ferris. In fact it was the Internet Business Mastery and Smart Passive Income Podcasts that led me onto my entrepreneurial journey to setting up my own business.
I was inspired to start Podcasting as a hobby and created a podcast talking about the Isle of Wight. This is where I got started actually podcasting myself, although I am not sure many people actually listened. However it was great practice!
In August 2014 I launched the HR & Employment Law Podcast, and since launching it has been featured in the iTunes New & Noteworthy section for Business podcasts.
I was also interviewed in 2016 for the Guardian online for an article about podcasting for business (listen here).

I live on the Isle of Wight and so I am fortunate enough to have a great place for activities on my doorstep, and all year round you can be guaranteed to find something to do.
I consider myself to be extremely lucky to live here with the variety of outdoor spaces and fabulous events with everything from the Isle of Wight Festival to Beer and Buses (one of my favourite events of the year!).
As well as enjoying life on the Island I like to travel and I was fortunate enough to be able to take a ‘grown up’ gap year and spent 10 months travelling around the world a few years’ back.
I am a bit of an adrenaline junky, love theme parks, roller coasters, have skydived and done two bungy jumps.
I have two young children who keep me occupied with adventures at the beach or in the woods, or at our favourite places Robin Hill and Blackgang Chine, two Isle of Wight classic family attractions..
When I get time I like to run and whilst I am certainly not a ‘serious’ runner I have run a marathon (the DIsney Marathon in Florida), and am signed up for the Isle of Wight Ultra Challenge 2021, a 60 ish mile route around the coast of the Island. Originally due to take place in May 2020 I had started the gruelling training regime but covid-19 soon put an end to that, now I have to face the 5am, 18 miles runs all over again!
I am a member of the Board of my local chamber of commerce. I am very passionate about promoting the Isle of Wight and businesses on the Island. We have such a diverse and amazing range of businesses here. No longer can we be seen as the sleepy, stuck ‘30 years behind’ the rest of the UK’.
Businesses here are world leading and the IOW chamber is working hard to promote this and provide support to existing and emerging businesses.

As the first generation in my family to attend University, I recognise and understand the important role that University and higher education play in social mobility.
I was fortunate enough to study my Law degree at Solent University, which is a University that is strongly committed to widening participation and supporting students like myself who had no experience within my family of higher education.
I was very pleased to have been able to give something back to the University, which really did change my life (twice), and was an independent governor on the Board between 2010-2019 and for the final three years of my tenure as Deputy Chair of the Board and Chair of the Remuneration Committee.

I am a strong advocate for equality and promoting women in business, and having noticed there were no events specifically for women in my local community I started a networking group in 2014.
The purpose of the group is to provide support and promote women in business on the Island in a friendly environment. There is no commitment or monthly fee, the group is available to attend when you can, when you need it or just for a bit of light relief with friends.
